2027 IIHF World Championship: Groups and Host Cities

The International Ice Hockey Federation has officially confirmed the group lineups for the 2027 IIHF World Championship. The tournament will take place from May 14 to 30 in Germany, with Mannheim and Düsseldorf serving as host cities. Sixteen teams will participate in the competition, divided into two groups.

Group A will feature teams from Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Austria, Slovenia, and Ukraine. Group B includes teams from Canada, the United States, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan, and Hungary. The absence of the Russian national team is notable: although the IIHF Disciplinary Council overturned the suspension for safety reasons, a decision on the admission of the Russian and Belarusian national teams will not be made until the IIHF Congress in the fall.

IIHF President Luc Tardif emphasized the importance of the return of the Russian and Belarusian national teams to international competition, but noted the need to comply with safety measures and take into account the geopolitical situation. "Sooner or later they will return," Tardif said.
